The world’s employees have spoken (Part 2)

From last month – ‘The Report is in folks! The world’s employees have spoken. Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace (2024): The voice of the world’s employees, is the Report in frame. It’s deep and detailed, broad ranging, interesting, and on some levels – just a touch frightening.’

Seizing the opportunity this month to drop some more content herewith acknowledgment to the Gallup research for our clients and partners as ‘food for thought’.

“When organisations increase the number of engaged employees, they improve a host of organisational outcomes.”

That statement is plastered in big bold font across the top of page 24 of Gallup’s Summary Report.

Employee engagement isn’t just about employee engagement as we all know. With that said it is useful from time to time to pause and think about employee engagement at a deeper level.

Employee engagement is beyond question connected to broader business and customer outcomes: “In a 2024 meta-analysis, the largest study of its kind that includes data from more than 183,000 business units across 53 industries and 90 countries, Gallup has found that high-engagement business units are likely to see significantly higher employee wellbeing — as well as higher productivity, profitability and sales — than low-engagement teams.”

There’s way too much data available in the Report to include here, nevertheless here’s a couple of attention grabbing findings to drive home the overall point: Higher engagement leads to reductions in: absenteeism, turnover, safety related incidents, and product quality defects.

Higher engagement leads to improvements in: customer loyalty and engagement, profitability and productivity, wellbeing, and general organisational ‘citizenship’.

Worth doing, and worth doing well is the JUNO point of view.

Appealing to Different Learning Styles

Our work at JUNO requires us to take into account the various learning styles that people possess.
The content below is a neat reminder with some practical tips added in.

‘Ever pitched a brilliant idea only for it to fall flat? The issue might not be the idea itself, but your ability to engage your audience. To captivate your listeners, try appealing to three different learning styles.

For visual learners, paint a picture. Use colourful charts, graphs, and illustrations to make your points clear. Or you could include a prototype, demo video, or animations to bring ideas to life. You might also ask your audience to close their eyes and envision a concept as you lay it out.

For auditory learners, use your voice. Begin with a compelling narrative. Vary your tone, pace, and pauses to create a sonic experience. Rephrase your questions to invite expansive thinking, like switching from “What do you think?” to “Can you help me think about this differently?” Incorporate relevant sounds or music to enhance emotional connection.

For kinesthetic learners, create a hands-on experience. Include tangible elements like product prototypes or interactive models, or create activities that allow learners who prefer tactile learning to experience your idea firsthand.

Most people are interested. Few are truly committed.
  • Interested people act when it’s convenient; committed people act no matter what.
  • Interested people do the minimum; committed people push beyond limits.
  • Interested people wait to be told; committed people take the initiative. Fully committing is the key to accomplishment.”

From TED This Month

The pilot seems to have worked for you, our dear readers, so we’ll stay with it for a while longer: – ‘a short thought-starter’ from the land of TED Talks.

In April this year Marion Campan, who has a passion for corporate culture, proposed that the most important thing to look for and focus on when applying for a new job or accepting a new one is – culture.
